FOREST Green fans are being urged to turn out in force for tonight’s open evening at the New Lawn, with big news in store regarding the club’s finances.
After more than a week of speculation, supporters will finally discover the identity of the new shirt sponsors.
A lucrative deal has been agreed, believed to be with a major national company, which could go a long way towards keeping the cash-strapped Blue Square Bet Premier outfit afloat.
The 2010/11 kit will be unveiled on the pitch at around 7.20pm, prior to a friendly against Wessex League side Laverstock and Ford which kicks off at 7.30pm.
There will be no charge for car parking or entry but spectators will be asked instead to make a donation to Age UK, the chosen charity of the new sponsors.
The open evening will also give fans the opportunity to meet the first-team players and tour the New Lawn stadium, including the new Green Club and Black and White Lounge facilities.
After the match there will be a Fans Forum in the Carol Embrey Suite, with directors and manager Dave Hockaday fielding questions from the floor.
Hockaday has confirmed he will field a team of mostly fringe players and Hartpury College students, with a further friendly to come at Chippenham Town on Saturday.
However defender Lee Ayres, who is still seeking a deal for next season, and striker Reece Styche could both feature.
“The likes of Lee and Reece will play because they are slightly behind in terms of fitness and need games,” said Hockaday.
“Otherwise it will be another chance for the youngsters and Hartpury lads to impress me.
“Everyone knows there are probably five places up for grabs in the squad so this could be a big night for them.”
