Campaign for a new Chippenham, elsewhere in the world.

I have done some research into the names of Wiltshire towns you can find in different parts of the world & have interestingly come accross a fair few;
In the United States, you can find;
Marlborough & Amesbury (Both nr Boston)
Warminster (Nr Philadpelphia)
Salisbury (13 found throughout the U.S. in states such as Oregon, Vermont, Maryland, Conneticut, North Carolina etc.)
Wilton (North Dakota)
Westbury (7 found throughout the U.S. in states such as Texas, New York & Alabama.)
Also, you can find.......
Salisbury - New Brunswick, Canada, Warminster, Ontario & Westbury, Quebec Canada.
Malmesbury - South Africa..
Salisbury nr Adelaide, South Australia & Westbury Tasmaina - Australia.
Interesting as it is, there is nowhere outside the U.K. called Chippenham. I find this a shame as the town has had a long & interesting history, going way back to 800AD. I'm hoping, with a Facebook campaign Group I've created & with much Civic Pride, we can inspire & encourage the powers that be, to name a newly built town or suburb, Chippenham!!
There is a link to my Facebook page on the discussion forum on an earlier posting of mine. (Wot, no Chippenham in America?) Hoping that many people will join up & just maybe....Help make history!!

According to the Virgina Historical Society in an anonymous article written in the Richmond Literature & Historical Quarterly of Spring 1980, the name of Chippenham was used for the then known Chippenham Road because of "the plesant old English sound." After this, other places within close distance adopted the name Chippenham, Richmond Virginia U.S.A.
I mentioned on Radio Wiltshire that, having been to 11 countries, ( having spanned a fair bit of the world from Seattle to Moscow to Ayia Napa in Cyprus) when I mention to people I'm from an English town called Chippenham, people just absolutely LOVE the name of the place!! (Hence the fact I have Americans & Aussies as members on my group.)
I'm hoping to really generate some Civic Pride! This time 10 years ago, people were gearing up for Chippenham Town FC going to Wembley. What I wish to do is to spread the name of Chippenham to thousands of people accross the world who've never heard of the place & make them fall in love with the name. A "New Chippenham" m-a-y still happen yet!!

ReportThe small collection of a few streets, Chippenham Village - as it's known to the locals in Richmond Virginia, cannot be seen on a regular U.S.A. atlas map. You could prob fit Chippenham village into our John Coles Park, with room to spare!!
I've wrote to the Virginia Historical society, to find out about the Chippenham connection to Richmond Virginia. (There is a Chippenham hospital, mall etc.) I'm not sure if there are any records of a Victorian figure here, making a big influence there. He/the family may have hailed from Chippenham nr Cambridge. Will find found from the local historians in Virginia, who are doing research on the matter, on my behalf. :)
