Make sure you cast your vote in Chippenham this week to decide what our national voting system should be.

The Alternative Vote referendum is taking place across the UK this Thursday, May 5.

You can find out where your nearest polling station is on Wiltshire Council's website.

They're in the usual places, community centres, like Pewsham, scout huts, sports centres etc.

Unlike other areas of Britain there are NO scheduled local elections taking place in the Wiltshire Council area so the Referendum on the AV vote will be the only election running on Thursday 5 May 2011.

If you're planning to vote in person on 5 May 2011 the council is urging you to check your polling cards, which will give details of your nearest polling station. The poll card is not needed to vote so if people mislay it, they can still confirm their polling station by looking at our referendum polling station finder or by calling the council's helpline on 0300 456 0112.

For more information about the AV Referendum, log on to www.aboutmyvote.co.uk/referendum or visit the referendum pages of  Wiltshire Council's website.

It might not be a decision that directly affects Chippenham in the way a local election might but it'll give boaters the chance to decide how our next government is voted in. So if you had any concerns or complaints with the 2010 election system then now is your chance to vote against it.

There seems to be a feeling in Chippenham that the AV is a good thing. I've seen several 'Vote Yes signs about the town in people's gardens and front windows.

Let us know what you think and how/where you'll be voting on Thursday.
