The third Chippenham Dragon Boat Race will take place on the River Avon at Monkton Park, Chippenham, on Saturday 9th July 2011. For 2011, the Rotary Club of Chippenham Wiltshire Vale, who promote the event, have again joined forces with their sister club, the Rotary Club of Chippenham, who will again be running their successful ‘Art In The Park' family fun day on the same site on the same day.
The event is free to spectators, but the emphasis in dragon boat racing is on participation, and companies, community groups, the armed forces, schools and colleges etc, are encouraged to enter 17 (min) person teams for which there is a charge per team to cover the cost of staging the event, on top of which team members are required to raise money for charity by seeking sponsorship fron friends, colleagues and relatives. Corporate sponsorship opportunities also exist for businesses in the area. To date, the event has raised over £20,000 for local and Rotary charities.
So why not have a great day of fun in the sun, build on youyr relationships with colleagues and the community, promote your business, AND raise money for charity. Full information, including 200 images of last year’s event, is available at http://tinyurl.com/2bc9avp

Good news - it's quite a spectacle so do go along if you can! Nice to see the river being used for fun. And the weather's looking OK!

Report17 teams now booked in - an increase on last year - that's around 300 paddlers signed up for fun and frolics on the river and to raise over £10,000 for a whole raft of charities. Weather forecast is half reasonable and BBC Radio Wiltshire will be broadcasting commentary on the final race and the trophy presentation, live at the event between 3pm and 4pm.
Entry for spectators is free and, whether you're in a team or not, you can try your hand at Sumo Wrestling or Kangaroo Boxing (£1 for adults, £0.50 for children).
Food and drink available, plus beer tent .
If you really can't make the event, you can still support it by texting CDBR11 followed by a space followed by the amount in whole pounds you wish to donate, to 70070. You donation will directly benefit Leukemia Research and The Rise Trust, Chippenham.
