Has anyone walked the A4 at Derry Hill lately, or driven into the lay-by on the hill? If so, you will have entered a tip to rival Compton Bassett. See the photographs below. I have corresponded with the County Council now for 2 years on this subject, but all they have done is to put uip some signs, which are ignored and defaced, making the situation worse. Bowood Estate are the land owners, and I understand, are responsible for the clear up, but it is no good clearing it up, if you dont have a long term plan to prevent fly-tipping. Close the lay-by, and prevent vehicles from entering the area altogether. Bad luck on the snack van and it's customers, but this may be the only answer. Someone do something- the area is resembling a 3rd world country, rather than a classic piece of english countryside.

Hey, you'll be pleased to know that the lay-by is rubbish free. I was thrilled to see that a big clean up had taken place, and hope that efforts are made to keep it that way. We'll keep an eye out and let you know !!

I too am pleased that the clearup has taken place, and many thanks to the County Council and Bowood for arranging it (although it took two years!) Still concerned that it will happen all over again, unless preventative measures are taken - with charges ever escalating for tipping, fly tipping is bound to increase. Any ideas to stop it, other than physically closing the layby, which would get all the truckers excited!? Dollery
