Don't go into town too much but I just ignore them if they try to engage me.
What I don't like is when they disturb me at home, knocking on your door gone past 8 in the evening, kids in bed etc.
I have a 'No Cold Callers' sign on my letterbox (BTW printed off from Money Saving Experts Website) which is very effective at deterring the usual cold calling lot but seemed to have no effect on this 'chugger'. When I opened the door she said that she did see the sign but was exempt as she was collecting for a 'charity'. I sent her on their way anyway for disturbing our peace, but I do wonder if they are exempt from these notices.
By law or code of conduct the usual cold callers have to respect the sign and can be reported for a breach, but if I am to believe this chugger woman, it is not the case for them. Must look into it.
But folks, I strongly recommend the sign print off from moneysavers website, it really works! (except for the chuggers!) The more people use them, the more chance that the cold calling scourge will be eradicated for good.
The worst thing is when they're rude to you when you walk on by. One in Chippenham said to me once 'You're not interested in charity then'? when i said 'no thanks' and walked past! I could have been a lot ruder, and i've seen people shout at them. It's no surprise really when they're such a hassle.

Report
I ve had one walk right on fromt of me when I was obviously walking and talking on my phone, they stopped to deliverately obstruct my path, so I just walked right into him.
He was so shoked, that he didnt say a word, and ive neverr seen this particular one again! i do not agree in anyway with this "hard sell" technique, which only makes me dispise the charity that uses them.
I for one am interested in supportting charities, and I support severl less mainstream charities, the Albert Kennedy Trust is one, which does nott get the same publicity as others like the Britich Legios, Cancer Research and so on.
But I object
£300 - £340 p day
£55-70,000 + benefits
£30k - £50k pa + Bonus + Pension + Benefits
