Would you believe that, back in the 1950's, before Sky TV & when the best footballers of the day (Stanley Matthews, Albert Finney etc) worked among the fans in the mills & factories, both Chippenham Town & Chippenham United F.C. (which became defunct in 1962) often used to have regular crowrds of over 2,500 people. If England DO win the World Cup, I wonder if 2,500-3,000 of the townsfolk will begin to pour into Hardenhuish Park to cheer on the Town, week in, week out?
