Things must be desperate if this is 'news'. Dark, grainy pictures of fire engines - get rid of your post it undermines your credibility.

Anything is considered 'news' jims_dad, as it stands for nothing but North, East, West ad South. It's coverage of what is happening al over the land. Should try posting some of your own news if you don't think this is worthy.

I think your profile picture says more than I can. Your reinvention of the origins of the word News is novel & creative but wrong. I suggest you buy a dictionary and loook it up. News should be about giving 'intelligence', information i.e something interesting - neither of which applies to the original post.

You're right, news should be of interest. And several people had expressed an interest in knowing what the commotion had been in town, involving the emergency services. So i found out, posted a story, and some photos. Unfortunately the subject matter related to a matress fire, admittedly not hugely exciting, and the pictures weren't award-winning. But people in Chippenham asked what had happened that night, and i told them! Feel free to post your own newsworthy items...the site needs people like you to educate, entertain, and inform.

Who is the tedious person who decided that something people wanted to know about was not "news". In my dictionary when I "loooked" it up news was described as "new or interesting information, fresh events reported". What it does not say is only report it if jims_dad says its ok to do so. As previously mentioned you are welcome to report your own VERY interesting and news-worthy items to inform and educate all of us, as you obviously think that no one else is capable. Actually - don't bother!!

I'm with @Jims_Dad. He had a fair point, which @Lois_Avery agreed with. Why is @21elephants so pedantic? Was it her mattress that was on fire? Everyone is entitled to express their opinion but only if @21elephants agrees with it.

Sorry I'm nor sure what you mean, what did Lois_Avery agree with? I don't think it was Jims_Dad. Jims_Dad has been rude about someones contribution and another persons profile picture - It seems to several people who have read this that this person just likes to criticise rather than to comment. Lois_Avery is informing us of local issues, she is taking time to gather information to inform people about things that occur in our neighbourhood, however big or small. Does the size of the event mean it is less important? I think that no one should tell another to "get rid of your post" as this is not an opinion. I believe people are entitled to their own opinion, whether I agree with it or not, however, it is not right for someone to tell another that their contribution is not worth submitting and to delete it. Continue to inform us Lois_Avery!!
