Students in need. Charity people in Chippenham.

I believe that most people will agree with me that charity is a great thing. People who help others are respected and know that others will help them when they'll in need too.
In this country there are many people of many ages that are willing to do a lot to help others, they give up studying and go to other countries to help those who need it. People who retire also look for new hobbies and often want to get involved in a charity organisation. I really think that is a fantastic thing that there is so many people out there who want to help others, but do we need to be forced to do that? http://www.chippenham.gov.uk/
Chippenham town always have students standing around in town trying to encourage people to put money towards charity. Most people are aware of that these charities exist and if they want to give them money, they will do it themselves.
A few times now, my friends have told me that they are getting scared to go to town as they feel forced to talk to charity people. I thought that myself, these people will not ask me to talk to them once, but every time you walk past them they will literally stop you from walking, even if you say you're not interested and you feel bad because you know they only want you to give them a couple of spare pounds and help others.
Recently I have been offered a job, which was working for charity, standing in high street and encourage people to give money towards charity. Then I have found out that these student get paid up to £13 per hour! That has made me wonder if these people even care about the charity at all. Student live in difficult but do we have to suffer too? http://www.ufindus.com/charities/chippenham
I don't think it's a good thing for our town to had people walking around and making others talk to them. We don't need to scare the tourists as well. Maybe these people could stand on a side and nicely wait until some great person walks by and decide that they will put money together charity, without being forced to do that. I think that will help people relaxed and give our town a slightly nicer atmosphere.

As someone who has done voluntary work for Arthritis Research, I find it amazing that these people are paid apparently exorbitant rates for the work that they do! can this be true? Part of my operation used to be standing outside of a supermarket, with a collecting box, but the strict ruling always was NO SHAKING THE TIN OR SOLICITING. I understood this to be the law, in which case, anyone who does feel harrassed by these fund raisers, should have no hesitation in calling in the police (if you can find one in the town centre) Dollery

ReportSometimes getting through Chippenham high street is like running a gauntlet trying to avoid them! Some of them can be very rude and pushy. How do they know i don't already do my bit for charity! I get that it's a tough job, but noone's forcing them. And their attitute will only deter people further. I might just try the reporting method.

ReportCharity is important - one of the seven pillars, amongst other things - but is it charity when such a high proportion of donations go to the company selling this "product"?
I understand that they are selling a monthly "donation", and the agreement they have with the charity requires somewhere close to a year of payments before any money will be received by the charity itself. As most people apparently cancel within 9 months, only a very small proportion of donations go to their intended purpose.
If you find this harassment annoying or offensive, ask to their their charity id card, and report them to the local police. Better still, do this and also report them to the charity they are representing, making it clear that you don't approve of this method of funding. While you are at it, ask the charity what proportion of funds donated make it to the intended recipient, and make a donation direct to a charity that you like.
