So it looks like the lights have gone out around Pewsham as the council attempts to save a penny or two.

We were warned about it at the beginning of the year. The council announced that the A4 and the A350 (two of Chippenham's busiest roads!) would be plunged into darkness between midnight and 5.30am.)

And now the signs are up to warn drivers that it's lights out after 12pm.

The hope is that the council will save £9,400 a year in electricity costs.

Which sounds like a lot but given that the council's budget runs into millions of pounds it seems like a small save to me for something that's likely to affect a lot of people.

Midnight isn't that late, people will still be driving and Pewsham Way and Avenue La Fleche and the A350 bypass, in particular won't benefit from houses lighting the road up - it's totally dark.

What do you think? Have you even noticed? IS it cost cutting or dangerous?
