Wiltshire is still on alert after heavy rainfall with more rain scheduled to come this weekend.

This week the county has experienced major flooding across roads and overflowing rivers covering bypasses.

Although we will see a break from the rain today, flooding is still causing delays and roads are still closed.

Staverton near Trowbridge is still closed due to major flooding with police assessing the situation throughout the day. Motorists are advised to keep away from this area after a van became stranded in the water.

The town bridge in Bradford-on-Avon is still open for traffic getting to Melksham and Corsham however flooding is still hazardous along the road by Countrywide towards Melksham.

Friday is expected to be more settled with sunny spells however temperatures have plummeted well into the single figures.

Saturday Wiltshire has been predicted to receive more rainfall which will once again affect roads and crossings.

Trains are still delayed between Swindon and Bristol Parkway affecting services going through Melksham and Chippenham.

Buses are running on a normal schedule however diverted routes are put in place for services driving in rural areas.

Keeping safe when driving

•    Only drive in torrential rain if it necessary

•    Take food and a warm drink and clothing with you in case you become stuck in traffic or break down near a flood.

•    Keep below the suggested speed limit for roads as wet surfaces make it harder to brake.

•    If you're unsure of a particular route, find a diverted way to get to your destination if in doubt.
