As a girl with the quest for the perfect body, when I saw the Flabelos vibrating plates advertised in the Olympiad Leisure Centre after a particularly gruelling gym session, I jumped at the chance and booked 5 sessions for a reasonable £10 as an introductory offer. Toning, weight loss and reduciing cellulite were just a few of the benefits of the vibrating plate  and it even said you could lose a dress size in 3 weeks! (15 sessions) I was slightly dubious, however for £10, I thought I'd give it a try.

The Flabelos machine works by sending out a fast sequence of vibrations, specifically designed to trigger and stimulate muscle walls. After being shown by a gym instructor the basic instructions and poses for using the machine, I began the 10 minute session.

You can choose from 3 levels; level 1 being low intensity intended for rehabilitation, level 2 medium intensity for inch and weight loss and level 3 high intensity for toning. You can also set the machine to manual and increase or decrease the vibrations at your own will.

I decided to go for the weight and inch loss programme and was soon vibrating away at a medium intensity which increased as the session progressed. There are various poses you can do on the plate, designed to target various parts of the body. For example, squatting on the plate works the thighs etc (there's a big poster of poses right in front of the machine).

Personally, I didn't feel the intensity was quite strong enough so I decided to change the programme halfway throiugh the session to manual, in which I set the machine to it's highest vibrating session- what a difference! The vibrations are very strong and you can really see every part of your body shaking.

So, does it work? I'm not sure. I've been working out 5 times a week and using the Flabelos plate once a week and following a calorie controlled diet so I've obviously seen changes to my body, but whether it's due to the Flabelos plate, I just don't know. I think that combined with an active and healthy lifestyle, you would certainly see results, however I don''t think the poses shown on the poster are quite cutting it. If you want to see real results, I think you need to be exercising whilst  on the machine, ie sit ups, press ups, squats etc- I'm afraid just standing on it isn't going to melt that fat off like it claims!

However at just £2 a session (if you're a member, the price increases slightly if you're not) it's certainly worth a try. Speak to a gym instructor about how to get the most out of your sessions and it could be  a great tool in you're journey to a healthier body!
