Chippenham Town Council has expressed their disappointment after car parking proposals were rejected.

One of the car parking scheme ideas was to introduce free car parking in all public car parks in Chippenham after 3pm on one day a week. It was suggested to trial the idea for ten weeks running up to Christmas.

The other idea was for Wiltshire Council to work with businesses and Cherish Chippenham Ltd to introduce concessionary car parking scheme in the town which would benefit local businesses and other users.

Wiltshire Council rejected the ideas despite Chippenham Town Council stating the schemes would be aiming for 'increasing footfall to the town centre'.

In a statement released by Chippenham Town Council it said: "Rejection of the proposals has caused dismay."

Nothing to do with the politics, it's just a case of 90% of the Wilts County Council either not knowing where Chippenham is or never visiting the town.

If they were to take a drive around the town they would soon discover that the traffic light systems are ineffective and just cause problems.

With regards to the parking situation here all it does is to drive people to shop elsewhere, hence the number of shops that have closed from lack of custom. (could it be that many now shop in Trowbridge?)
