The Student Union at Wiltshire College, Chippenham has announced it won a nationally acclaimed anti-bullying award.
Monkton Park Primary School attended the presentation at Chippenham College campus.
The Barney and Echo Action Against Bullying Award was presented to the college's Principal Di Dale yesterday in a special presentation at the Cove Theatre.
The award was among 15 other categories in association with The Police Community Education Clubs of Great Britain which recognises the efforts of those actively helping young people and children to become positive members of their community.
The award was presented to Wiltshire College's Chippenham campus after judges were impressed by the Student Union's decision to buy 30 citizenship books which was then donated to Monkton Park Primary School to support their PSHE programme.
Andrew Davies, who presented the award and from the Education Awards said: "It is so important to reward schools and colleges that encourage positive citizenship and the work done here by the Student Union at Wiltshire College is fantastic."
Wiltshire College first introduced the project three years ago after being approached by the Police Clubs of Great Britain to purchase the books from the Barney and Echo range.
The books are used to help children learn about social lessons when it comes to bullying and vandalism in communities and how the choices they make may affect them later on in life.
Principal of Chippenham College, Di Dale said: "Projects like this are great because they link us with our community and it has brought the college into the lives of the pupils at Monkton Park Primary School at a local level."
Over the last three years Wiltshire College has donated over 100 books to three different primary schools and has become so successful the project is now being introduced to the Trowbridge Campus and the college is hoping it will also be introduced to Salisbury and Lackham college.
Head teacher of Monkton Park Primary School, John Barlow said: "This experience has been very positive for the children. It supports the anti-bullying work we do in school and the positive message about staying safe."
"Most importantly the children have identified with the stories, they enjoyed them and the message has got across."
Along with the donation of books to Monkton Park Primary School, Wiltshire College also organised a competition for year 5 pupils to produce a poster based around anti-bullying theme and the winners were announced at the presentation.
