Blue bins for card and plastic recycling in Chippenham

After years of inadequate recycling provision in Chippenham, residents are finally getting blue bins for cardboard and plastic.

Up until now we've had to take a trip to the tip of local recycling points in supermarket car parks to get rid of excess card or plastic. It can't go in the black box recycling and it seemed wasteful to dump loads in the green bins. But finally we have a solution.

The scheme, which has been available in other parts of Wiltshire for a while, is free and means everyone in Wiltshire has the same service.

Before the council became a unitary authority in 2009 the Wiltshire districts all varied.

When your bin arrives you'll get a collection calendar telling you when the bin will be collected, ready for the start of the new fortnightly service in November.

According to the council the services are "part of a range of improvements to the council's waste and recycling service. The changes are also designed to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, which will dramatically lower the amount the county's taxpayers spend on landfill tax."

Up to 50,000 additional tonnes of waste are expected to be recycled or otherwise diverted from landfill over the next two years as a result of the council's changes. This will mean savings of more than £3 million in landfill tax.

Find out more about the new waste and recycling collection service, including frequently asked questions, or phone the council on 0300 456 0102.

Nice Idea, Shame about the Implementation. I like the idea of recyleing, yet this council seems to have thought its one size solution fits all. It does not. I like many many people in this county live in a flat.

The bin store for my block of flats, is bearly big enough for the six Eeisting wheely bins, let alone six more new ones.

Oh but i should not have feared, they have only given us one recycling bin, for six properies!.

I have contacted the council on several occasions in regards on how we can solve this issue, but all I got was, the bin is how we are going to do it, so thats what you will get!

I have contacted my Councillor "Desna Allan" several times, but she has either ignored my Emails (not unusual for her) or failed to return my calls!

So does that mean I can claim a reduction on my Council Tax, because I am not getting the same level of service that everyone else is getting?
